Our flavors

We make everything from scratch using only real ingredients in our scoop shop in downtown Siloam Springs, and we're committed to sourcing as much local as possible. During the summer we take advantage of the region's fruit offerings - from strawberries and blueberries to local cantaloupe and even pawpaws! We also partner with local cheese producers, coffee roasters, chocolate makers, beer brewers and more to craft the tastiest, freshest ice cream in Northwest Arkansas.

You probably knew that we would be closed tomorrow, Thursday November 23rd, but did you know that it is the National Day of Mourning for Native Americans? This will be the 54th observance of this day. In 1970, an Aquinnah Wampanoag man named Frank "Wamsutta" James was asked to speak about the friendly relationship between the English settlers and the Wampanoag at a celebration of Thanksgiving day organized by the commonwealth of Massachusetts. When they read his speech ahead of the event they told him he needed to revise his speech. He refused and instead shared his original speech at the first National Day of Mourning at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. Read his speech in the comments of this post and please watch our Instagram stories to hear from other Native Americans and Indigenous people who are sharing what the day means to each of them.

ᏣᎳᎩ ᎢᏯ / Cherokee Pumpkin / Siyo! Meghan here, and I’m excited to talk about our newest flavor that celebrates Cherokee resilience - a spiced pumpkin ice cream made from pumpkins grown in the Cherokee Nation Heirloom Garden in Tahlequah. Cherokee people have been growing and eating these pumpkins long before European contact, and like our culture, language, and other varieties of seeds, they were nearly lost when the tribe was forcibly removed west. In September, we toured the heirloom garden and met Feather, the ethnobiology manager, who is a wealth of knowledge about plants, science and culture. In our conversations, we learned that as they harvest pumpkins to collect seeds for preservation, there is so much leftover that it’s hard to even give it all away. Of course, our first thought was ice cream, so we made a couple of trips to Tahlequah during harvest to collect many, many pounds of pumpkins. We added native spicebush berries and cinnamon for a taste that’s reminiscent of the best pumpkin pie you’ve ever had. I’m so grateful to share this very special flavor with all of you! 🎃❤️

We had heard about spicebush berries a few years ago and finally got our hands on some about a month ago. These little berries are native to this land from here all the way to the east coast. The flavor is like a combination of allspice, clove and cardamom. It’s strikingly similar to our classic mulling spice blend we’ve used for years to make Sweater Weather, but now it’s just spicebush berries with a touch of cinnamon. Today is National Pawpaw day and we just happen to be over here processing 135lbs of Arkansas pawpaws! Next week we’ll have more of our delicious Pawpaw Vanilla Bean ice cream, Pawpaw Lime sorbet and our 1st place Pawpaw Caramel Sauce at this years 25th annual Ohio @pawpawfest. We shared this photo yesterday in our stories and received several messages asking if these would be available in the shop. Our usual Pawpaw hookups haven’t had as much fruit as previous years so everything we received went into products we are taking to the Ohio @pawpawfest this weekend. However, we have been sending messages to growers and foragers who are located anywhere between Ohio and Siloam Springs and today we connected with someone who it sounds like will be able to load us up on our way back home next week. It’s looking like we will be able to bring home enough fruit to not only stock our scoop shop but also all the stores we supply. 🤞🙏

Babette’s Bakery has been a vendor at the Siloam Springs Farmers Market for 3 years. Their sourdough bread is so tasty and we are now selling loaves at the shop. We only have one of each style left today! Come support this mom and daughter team and get yourself some amazing bread!

Por tiempo limitado! No esperas más! The flavor of nance fruit is unlike anything else. A bit like a banana and a pawpaw or lychee with a distinct hint of cheese. ¡No dejes de probar nuestro helado de nance! Nance is a small yellow cherry looking fruit that grows in tropical regions of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, the Caribbean, and more. It is used to make everything from a sweet soup like dessert called pesada, a refreshing agua fresca, a liquor called crema de nance, and ice pops called percheronas. The flavor is fruity like a banana and a lychee with a hint of cheese which is what inspired us to turn it into an ice cream. We’re pretty excited about this one, but we made an absolutely tiny batch of it, and it’s only available in the scoop shop, so don’t sleep on it. Come see us and try this totally unique and delicious flavor!

Our labels for our jams arrived! We made some Rosemary & Peach Jam with peaches from A&A Orchard and some Blackberry and Hibiscus Jam made with blackberries from Taylor Orchard. These are great for topping ice creams like Happy Goat or Sweet Brown Vanilla, on crackers with cheese or spreading on your toast. It’s peach season in Arkansas! We have some fresh made Peach & Jalapeño Honey hand pies at the shop using peaches provided by two young Ranger Peach trees at Matt and Meghan’s house just a few blocks from the shop. Two of our favorite flavors are back! We just hope we can keep them straight because they look so similar. On the left is a favorite for many known as Red & White sorbet made with raspberries and pinot grigio white wine. On the right is our Blood Orange sorbet made with fresh squeezed blood orange juice. If you’re not familiar with blood oranges they have an incredible flavor that is a bit like a navel orange and a raspberry had a baby and that baby was a delicious edible flower. This Flavor of the Month features two new things for us. First, we’ve never made a coconut ice cream. Shocking, because we definitely get asked fairly frequently to make a coconut ice cream. Second, thanks to the effectiveness of vaccines, Matt was able to travel back to Mexico for some long overdue vanilla sourcing. During the pandemic we made a new connection with a vanilla producer in northern Puebla and were finally able to meet in person, see where they grow, and learn what challenges they face. We’re really excited about the quality of Vanilla they’re producing and the opportunities to bring you some of Mexico’s best organically grown vanilla beans! We make this one using blueberries from Rock-A-Berry in Decatur swirled into a tangy buttermilk ice cream with a hint of chaga mushroom which gives it a bit of an earthy vanilla flavor. April is the month of the Dogwood Festival in Siloam Springs and since last year the festival was canceled, we decided to make three new flavors that are all a nod to the classic festival foods you can find at Dogwood! ⁠ Fresh squeezed lemonades are a standard at any festival, but we wanted to give this one a bit of a twist. Veronica, a culinary student intern at Pure Joy, suggested that we use Atado de Dulce/Piloncillo, which is an unprocessed cane sugar. We’ve finally created a delicious chocolate option for our dairy-free folk!! This dark chocolate sorbet is rich and smooth, thanks to @askinosie chocolate bars. Speaking of, we may have gotten a littttleee carried away with the amount of chocolate in the recipe, but after tasting it we didn’t want to change anything, so if you show up to buy it at the shop bring a couple extra dollars for that pint. If you aren’t familiar with blood oranges, they have a beautiful, florally, less tart, raspberry’esque orange flavor with flesh/juice that is a beautiful deep red color, hence the name. Although some giant corporation is trying to rebrand blood oranges as “raspberry oranges,” we legit added raspberries to our sorbet before they started that crap. We made a few tweaks to this recipe and it’s even better than the first time! A creamy rosemary and olive oil ice cream is layered with house made lemon curd for one of the most delicious winter flavors! Next is Redhead Sorbet which has seen many variations over the years. The best of which include tequila and just a hint of ginger! Our third flavor for January is Coffee & Biscotti which was inspired by a new dark roasted Ugandan coffee from our friends at Pour Jons.
